A celebration of Long-Distance Hiking and our Community

The annual ALDHA-West Gathering is simply that: a gathering of hikers who share a love of long-distance hiking. We come together to reconnect, share stories, and celebrate the trails that shape our lives. This is our biggest membership event of the year--and one you won't want to miss.

The event kicks off Friday evening and runs through Sunday lunch. This is great weekend to make new friends and reconnect with old ones, year after year.

 

What began in 1994 as a group of seven passionate hikers has grown into a beloved annual tradition. Today, the gathering blends the intimacy of a grassroots reunion with the polish of professional conference--set in a stunning outdoor location adjacent to National Scenic Trails.

Throughout the weekend, you'll hear from world-class speakers on a wide range of topics including groundbreaking new routes, trail conservation, and new perspectives on hiking. Our speakers showcase a diversity of voices from our community, and their stories are emotional, impactful, and inspirational.

The Triple Crown of Hiking Awards Ceremony

​Saturday evening features our Triple Crown of Hiking Awards Ceremony. Here we celebrate people who've hiked the entirety of Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail. The ceremony is a deeply heartfelt celebration of hard-earned accomplishment, and community support. There is rarely a dry eye in the room, and you will leave feeling inspired. The awards ceremony is not to be missed!

Nowhere else will you find this level of shared experience and trail wisdom in one place. The ALDHA-West Gathering is where stories are passed on, lifelong friendships are formed, and the spirit of long-distance backpacking is truly celebrated.

​Rotating Locations

Each year, our gathering changes location to a different western state, including California, Oregon, and Colorado. As our gathering has grown in size, the venues have changed to meet our needs. Keep in touch with us to get updates on each years’ state and venue.
