Gathering '98 - Photos Page 3

JimWolf.jpg (15467 bytes)

Jim Wolf, Director of the Continental Divide Trail Society, gave us a brief history of his 20 plus year involvement with the Continental Divide Trail.

While the trail was officially included in the National Scenic Trails Registry, there are still many areas without an established route. Much of that area is still in dispute by the many interested parties.

In other areas, the trail is simply a series of cairns running along the ridgeline with no real trail bed.

Bob Turner Presents a token of ALDHAW's appriceation of Jim's tireless work.

Following Jim's presentation, Bob Turner presented Jim a small token of appreciation from ALDHA-West. His years of tireless effort have provided a rich legacy of opportunities for Long Distance hikers for generations to come.  .

Recent thru-hikers discuss last summers exploits.

While the discussion and talks took up lots of time. There was still plenty of time for this group of this seasons PCT thru-hikers to talk about last summers adventures.

Chris "Tahoma" Bailey (seated left) had only been off the trail a few days before the Gathering. During one of the open slide shows, he showed a few of his slides from his and Jenelle's 400 mile snow odyssey through the High Sierras. Check out his and Jennell's website Chris "Tahoma" Bailey and Jenelle "Gezelle" Wilhelm on the PCT.

Saturday Night feed.

Saturday we escaped the rain in the Pavilion in the Cascade Locks park for a spagheitti feed. Followed by by a raffle for goodies provided by the owners of Vermilion Valley Resort on the PCT.

Later we saw a series of beautiful slides on the wonders of the Canadian Continental Divide Trail.
